The Worshipful Company of Cooks supports its own apprenticeship programme at Westminster Kingsway College.
The programme sponsors one cohort of apprentices at NVQ Level 2 and one cohort at NVQ Level 3 each year.
Each cohort usually consists of up to 16 apprentices.
The sponsorship aims to enrich and enhance an apprentice’s learning experience including: practical and financial support; visits to national wholesale markets; specialist cooking tuition ranging from the rigours of military cooking to culinary master-classes; catering competitions; professional mentoring; additional cooking equipment; and, institutions associated with the City of London.
Upon successful completion of both Levels 2 and 3 within the Worshipful Company of Cooks Apprenticeship Programme, apprentices may be invited to join the Cooks Company.
Each year the Company presents awards to those apprentices who successfully complete both Levels 2 & 3, including the Fooks Trophy for the best graduate apprentice.
In 2016, the Fooks Trophy was won by Demetris Sakallis from The Ivy.
